Extreme Make-Over Weight Loss Week 1

Dana Baker, a 44 year old,498 pound Bachelor from Nashville, Tenn has 2 passions in life and that is eating and singing. While Dana is at the "Y" doing swimming exercise , he gets a surprise from Chris Powell, a weight transformation coach , to challenge him to losing 250 pounds in 1 year.

In the first 3 months Chris goal was to get Dana to lose 110 pounds. In order to motivate Dana, Chris gave Dana an incentive that if he were to meet his goal, he would pay for a vocal coach for him since singing was a big part of him. After a grueling 3 months of sweating , Dana was ready for his first weigh in and successfully lost 111 pounds, which put his weight in the first 90 days at 387 pounds. He was on his way to his new look.

Over the next 3 months, Dana goal was to lose 70 pounds , which you would think would be a piece of cake since the first 3 months was a very big success. As part of his training for this 3 months, Dana was to walk 1 1/2 miles carrying 50 pounds of foods that he normally eats. After the 3 months were up, Dana was ready for his weigh in and only lost 29 pounds which put his weight at 358 pounds, which was way under his goal. Chris begins to suspect something was wrong. After questioning Dana, Chris found that Dana had some pinned up emotions that he had been carrying around. Dana confessed to Chris that he had been sexually abused as a kid which really led him to eating in the first place. After the talk Dana was determined to get back focused on his goal.

Over the next 3 months Dana goal was to split the  pounds he had to lose over the next 6 months., which was going to be difficult because Dana had a torn ACL, which limited him from doing certain exercises. After the weigh in, Dana had only lost 40 pounds which put his weight at 318 pounds, and left Dana with 70 pounds to lose in his final 3 month stretch. His chance of losing 250 pounds in 1 year was slipping away since he was down to his last 3 months.

After the final 3 months of training with Chris, Dana was ready for his final weigh in as family gathered together to witness his transformation.Dana lost 23 pounds, which put his final weight after 1 year at 295 pounds.

Dana did not meet his weight of 250 pounds in 1 year, but he definetely should be proud of the person he see in mirror.
